Burning Man “Mutant Vehicles”    2009

Just outside Gerlach Nevada, in the middle of nowhere (actually black rock desert) every year  for the week prior to labor day a temporary town  emerges from this dry lake bed . Not just a little town but about 45000 people get together for the largest no trace event in the world. A what you say??? A no trace event, meaning that after Black Rock City (as it is called) has burnt down the man and the temple and everyone has left. There is nothing left in the desert except tire tracks that are quickly erased by wind and rain ( yes they do get a little rain every year).  Leaving no trace of 45000 plus people, large and small art installations, Mutant vehicles,  a medical clinic, waste treatment facilty, law enforcement compound, miles of fencing , thousands of tents and campers, an airport, and who knows what else.  Check out burningman.com for more details.
